You Didn’t Start This Business to Feel This Tired
You got into travel because you wanted freedom. Flexible hours. Work that didn’t feel like punching a clock. The ability to build something that was actually yours.
And somewhere along the way, “flexible” turned into “always on.”
You’re answering emails at 9pm because a client caught you online. You’re taking a discovery call during your kid’s dinner because it was the only slot that worked. You’re busy — genuinely, exhaustingly busy — and somehow the business isn’t actually growing. It’s just running. All the time. With you attached to every piece of it.
If that’s where you are right now, you’re not doing anything wrong. You’re missing a system. And that’s a completely different problem than the one you think you have.
You Don’t Find Time. You Build It.
Here’s the thing nobody hands you when you go into business for yourself: extra hours don’t show up because you wanted them badly enough. Nobody’s going to clear your calendar for you. If you’re waiting to feel less busy before you fix anything, you’ll be waiting indefinitely, because busy expands to fill whatever room you give it.
The only way out is to build the time deliberately — and in a specific order, because each piece depends on the one before it.
Get organized first, so you have somewhere to put a plan. Time block, so your day has actual structure instead of an endless list. Set boundaries and communicate real expectations, so the structure survives contact with actual clients. Know your numbers, so you know exactly how much of your time each part of your business really needs. Automate what’s repeatable, so it runs without you. And hire for what’s left, once everything upstream is solid enough to hand off.
Skip a step, and the next one doesn’t hold. That’s not a guess — it’s what happened to both of us before we figured this out the hard way.
The Phone Call That Started All of This
Right after the first Covid closures, business started picking back up — and everyone in our accountability group was exhausted by it. Slammed. Drowning. No time to breathe. We texted each other, half-joking: “I don’t feel busy. Do you feel busy?” Neither of us did.
So we called each other, genuinely curious whether something was wrong with our numbers. We pulled them. And what we found surprised us: we were having some of the best months of our business lives — better than before the pandemic — while everyone around us was burning out. We weren’t working less. We just weren’t leaking time the way everyone else was.
That discovery is the reason Magic Made Simple exists. But neither of us actually started there.
Christina’s version of this started years earlier, with a business coach who suggested she start time blocking her calendar. She thought the woman had lost her mind. She’d just launched her travel agency, Showcase the World Travel, with a nine-month-old at home who treated naps as optional. Branding, web design, client work — she was building the whole business at once, with an infant who did not care about her calendar. But instead of forcing a rigid schedule onto a chaotic life, she and her coach built a flexible one shaped around the life she actually had. That structure is still standing, years later, even though almost everything about her business has changed shape since.
Penny’s version started with a much smaller, much more relatable moment: tracking her own time for the first time and discovering the real problem wasn’t scrolling Facebook for fun. It was checking one client message, which led to a few more messages, which led to answering something in a group — all of it technically work, none of it what she’d actually sat down to do, and all of it quietly wrecking her momentum on the task that mattered. That one realization is what got her to set her first real boundaries, and everything else followed from there.
Two different starting points. Same conclusion: the time was never going to just show up. We had to build it, on purpose, piece by piece — and once we did, we started teaching the exact system to other travel advisors, because we were tired of watching capable, hardworking people burn out doing this job the hard way.
What’s Inside Make Time
Make Time is that system, built out into six modules, in the order that actually works:
1. Get Organized — the planner, the weekly reflection ritual, and the “big rocks” framework that decides what gets your attention first.
2. Time Blocking — track your time, batch your tasks, and build the calendar structure that turns a chaotic day into a plan you can actually run.
3. Set Boundaries — the difference between a boundary and a client expectation, and how to communicate both so your calendar actually holds.
4. Know Your Numbers — the backward math that tells you how many calls, bookings, and hours you actually need, plus how to set goals with a real why behind them.
5. Automate — templates, email workflows, and content repurposing, so the repeatable stuff runs without you.
6. Hiring Help — how to decide what to delegate, write a job description that gets you the right person, and onboard them so it sticks.
Every module comes with the worksheets and templates we actually use ourselves — including the Ideal Week planner, the goal-setting worksheet, and our real hiring templates. Lifetime access, inside Path to the Magic Academy.
Is This Actually For You?
“I’ve tried time management stuff before and it didn’t stick.”
Most productivity advice is one tactic in isolation — just time blocking, just a planner, just “wake up earlier.” It falls apart because it’s missing the pieces around it. Make Time is the whole system, in the order that makes each piece hold.
“I’m already pretty organized. Do I still need this?”
Probably, honestly — most advisors who feel “organized” have module one or two handled and nothing past it. The boundaries, numbers, and automation modules are usually where the real time is hiding.
“How much time does this actually take to implement?”
You can start module one this week with about fifteen minutes. The system builds gradually, on purpose — you’re not meant to overhaul your whole business in a weekend.
“Is this only for travel advisors?”
It’s built by travel advisors, for travel advisors, with examples from our own agencies throughout. If you’re in a different service business, the framework still applies, but the specific stories and tools are built for this industry.
“What if I don’t have anyone to hire yet?”
That’s most people starting out, which is exactly why hiring is module six, not module one. You’ll have five other modules worth of time back before you ever need it.
If This Sounds Like Your Week
Here’s the honest version: this isn’t a magic trick. It’s six deliberate steps, and it takes real effort to put in place. But what it gives you back is real too — a calendar you actually run, clients who respect it, numbers that tell you where to focus, systems that work while you’re not looking, and eventually, help, so the business stops depending on you doing everything yourself, forever.
