Strategic planning gets a lot of attention at the beginning of a new year, when new goals and priorities make it natural to step back and look at the business as a whole.
But your business does not only need your strategic attention in January.
Sometimes one of the most useful times to step back is when there is still enough year left to change something.
Maybe the first part of the year did not unfold quite the way you expected. Maybe business is growing, but you are not sure what deserves your attention next. Maybe you have been busy serving clients and keeping up with the day-to-day work, and the bigger questions have slipped further down the list.
That does not mean the year is lost.
It may simply mean it is time to look at your business again with fresh eyes.
You do not have to review everything at once
A strategic review does not have to mean disappearing for a weekend and rebuilding your entire business plan.
One of the advantages of working through a full planning framework is that you can see the business as a whole, then decide which pieces need your attention now.
Inside the Strategic Planning Workshop, we look at eight areas that work together: your why and vision, time, brand and ideal client, focused marketing, the sales and client journey, client care, harmony in the business, and the numbers that help you measure progress.
You may discover that two of those areas need attention before the end of the year while the others are in a good place for now.
That is useful information.
The goal is not to create eight new projects. The goal is to understand where you are so you can make a better decision about where to focus.
There is still value in the year you are already in
It is easy to look toward the next annual planning season and think, “I will deal with this then.”
But there may still be several months available to strengthen something that matters now.
You might tighten a client-care process before a busy travel season, clarify your marketing so your fall campaigns have a stronger direction, protect time for work that has been repeatedly pushed aside, or begin tracking a number you have been making decisions without.
Those changes do not have to wait for a brand-new year.
In fact, doing a little strategic work now can make annual planning more useful later because you arrive with a clearer understanding of what is working, what is not, and what questions you want the next plan to answer.

Why Strategic Planning Matters
At Magic Made Simple, we believe that every business owner has the right to expect that their business will support their life goals, not just in revenue but in fulfillment. A well-crafted strategic plan is both the forward path and the map itself—it gives direction and purpose to each decision you make. Through strategic planning, you’ll refocus on your foundational purpose, goals, and opportunities, helping you see “the big picture” of where you want to go and how to get there. This approach provides clarity, reduces overwhelm, and ensures you’re building a business aligned with your vision.

A self-paced workshop gives you a different kind of space
We love our LIVE strategic planning sessions. There is energy in being in the room together, hearing other advisors’ questions, getting feedback, and setting aside dedicated time to work on your business.
There is also real value in learning on demand.
With a self-paced format, you can stop when something needs more thought. You can return to a lesson when that particular issue becomes relevant. You can spend longer in one area of the business and move more quickly through another.
And because you keep the recordings and workbooks, the workshop can become a reference rather than a one-time event. If you already have the recordings from a past workshop, pull them back out and choose one lesson you loved—or one area you meant to work on but never quite got to. If you do not already have access, the self-paced version in the shop gives you the recorded teaching and workbooks so you can start now.
One past participant did exactly that. She worked through the on-demand version first and then joined the live workshop later. Because she already understood the framework and some of the terminology, she came into the live experience better prepared. Instead of hearing every idea for the first time, she could use the live sessions to go deeper and leave with a more actionable plan.
That is an important distinction: self-paced does not have to replace live.
It can prepare you for it.
Revisiting the same material does not mean you are standing still.
From Penny + Christina
We return to conferences, trainings, recordings, coaches, and mentors even when we have heard a topic before.
Our businesses have changed. We have changed. The question we are bringing to the material may be completely different from the one we had a year earlier.
Something that barely registered the first time can become exactly the lesson we need later.
I am also the person who often remembers where we heard something. Christina may come to me with an idea she is working through, and I will say, “Go back to that lesson,” or “Watch that part of the recording again.” I do the same thing with trainings we have invested in ourselves.
That ability to revisit good teaching when the business is ready for it is one of the reasons we value recorded learning so much.
The value is not simply having access to more information.
It is having the right information available when you are finally ready to use it.
You can use the workshop differently each time
The first time through, you may realize your ideal client and brand need more clarity.
The next time, your marketing may be working well, but your schedule and operations are making the business harder than it needs to be.
Another year, the numbers may be the area you are finally ready to understand more closely.
That is why strategic planning is not something you finish once.
Your plan should grow as your business grows.
The self-paced Strategic Planning Workshop gives you the recorded teaching, workbooks, planning exercises, and a quarterly planner so you can work through the full framework at your own pace and return to it as your priorities change.
You do not need to wait for January — or even for the next live workshop — to ask better questions about your business.
Sometimes a fresh look now is exactly what helps you finish the year with more intention and walk into your next planning season ready to build from what you have already learned.
